Our meeting yesterday, Sep. 2016 - - Unofficial news and updates from Betsy.

Hi, all!

I have some updates from the meeting yesterday. I will post this on our FB page too.

Invitations to the blog...

I am inviting all Members of the BGAMUG Computer Club to this blog today soon. If you are a former member, you may also want to join up. We may put this on the website so it shows up automatically later on.

At the meeting, we voted to NOT vote again on disbanding our group. Why? Because there is a LOT of momentum right now to keep it going. Plus, we love getting together and helping others.

I made a flyer and mini-flyer too. Here is a copy of the mini-flyer:

We will be putting these around town and hopefully getting more members soon. We have some Officer Positions open too. If you want to work on Program, the Newsletter, (John Walker was the Editor for our Sept. Newsletter), be Sgt. at Arms, VP of Protocol, Secretary, help with Membership, be an Officer at Large (#2), or help with any job, just let an Officer know. Or comment below, or send an email to me at lizann 447 at yahoo.com. (no spaces).

Our election is IN NOVEMBER.

Jerry G. and Paula hope to go to Las Vegas for the APCUG Conference next month, October 21023. If you also would like to attend this, go here to check it out: http://apcug2.org/apcug-2016-conference/
There may be special values and deals for people in the club who want to attend. Let Jerry Gillette know if you would like to go. He may share with you about the Heart Attack Grill and the Bellagio.

The Board meeting for the BGAMUG Computer club is next Tuesday, October 4th at 6:30 at Jerry's Restaurant, which is near the Corvette Museum.  All BGAMUG members are invited to attend. If you wish to have something to eat, come at 6:00.

OUR DOOR DOLLARS drawing did not have a winner, so come to next month's meeting and maybe WIN 50 DOLLARS!!

Are YOU wanting to be an Officer for the BGAMUG Computer Club?

Hi, all!

You can be a super-hero!

Because.... WE HAVE OFFICER OPENINGS!

We have two openings right now for Officer for the BGAMUG Computer Club.

One opening is Secretary, the other is Newsletter Editor.

Betsy can do both of these for awhile.... and let the other officers who have served a LONG time have a break.

If you are interested in either of these positions, let Betsy or C.G. know.

Thanks!

See you at our Regular Meeting Tonight, Aug. 23 2016. It should be fun!

Our regular monthly Member Meeting is tonight.

We will learn about Windows 10!

This presentation is by Jeri Steele.

We meet (as usual) at Hillview Heights Church on 31-W, just a little ways from Lost River Cave, heading out of town. We meet in the back.

I may get a Windows 10 computer someday. There are some programs I like that are not available on a Mac.

--> Here is the posting from our Blogger blog:

"Excited - - our BGAMUG meeting is tonight, Tuesday, August 23rd. 6:30, Hillview Heights Church.

Board Meeting at Jerry's Restaurant is tonight, 6:30 p.m. Interested Members can attend. More about it...

Dear my fellow BGAMUG Members,

As you probably know, the motion to DISBAND the BGAMUG Computer Club lost by only 2 votes two meetings ago.

I and C.G. Haley are calling the BGAMUG membership to find out who can step up to be Officers for the coming year. We have some neat ideas for the Club, and would like to see it continue.

We already have some Members stepping up to be Officers. We need more, plus people who can be on other Committees later on.

The Board Meeting for BGAMUG is tonight at Jerry's Restaurant near the Corvette Museum. Those who want to eat dinner there will meet at 6 there, and others will join us for the Board Meeting at 6:30.

All Members of BGAMUG are invited. In fact, you may want to attend if you want the Club to continue. Why? Because some of the Board members may be discussing others ways of disbanding the Club. Jerry Gillette sent out a memo with four kinds of decisions we could make about the BGAMUG Club.

One is keeping the club, and going on. There are 3 other choices listed. To be clear, C.G. and I want to continue the club. Everyone except one person we have called this and last week ALSO wants BGAMUG to continue.

If you can make this meeting tonight, I think it would be helpful. Please let C.G. and I know your thoughts and if you can attend. Or leave a comment! :-)

Hi again! Just checking in. Another meeting of the Nomination Committee is tonight.

Hi BGAMUG'ers!

++++++++++++++++
A REMINDER
Our next BGAMUG Meeting is TUESDAY, JULY 26th
at Hillview Heights Church

Be there or be square.

Bring a friend too if you like.

! :-)
++++++++++++++++

We have another Committee Meeting tonight. We hope to discuss our ideas with our President, Jeri S. C.G. and I will be there too.

I can't wait to share our ideas.

If you are interested in serving as an Officer, we need you! Come help this year and get the club back on track.

I'd hate for it to have to close down. I have too many friends here to just say goodbye to them. Ack.

So, hope is there. We think if everyone helps, we can start adding members again and starting to plan events, more speakers, etc. and giving the present Officers a BREAK.

Leave a comment with your thoughts. And join the blog.

First Meeting and Phone Calls Coming Soon! An update on our Save BGAMUG Journey...

Hi, all! Just checking in again.

I just wanted to bring you up to date on the "Save Our BGAMUG Computer Club" journey.

It's been about two weeks since I found out some of our members wanted to close down the BGAMUG Computer Club - - and since I volunteered to help call people to help by volunteering to be an Officer for next year.

Reasons for shutting the club down (disbanding) included these:

Officers are tired of being officers and sometimes doing more than one job at one time,
Not as many Members are coming to meetings, and
Not as many Members as some Officers would like.

I am not sure about what other reasons there could be.

I volunteered to help - - so am writing this blog today again. I WAS helping with the website and blogging here in the past, so am doing it again.

If you are interested in being on this Save Our Club committee (also known as the Nomination Committee) just let me know by calling me or emailing me at lizann447 at yahoo.com.

And remind me if I do NOT get back with you the same day or the next day. Because I get a LOT of emails right now. I tend to sign up for everything that interests me, and I get some other kinds of emails too.

Well, that's about it. I will find a photo or two to share here next. I think it's the right thing to do to try to save this fun club.

I have not been active in the club always, but it's nice to know this fun group is here. It's a worthy group, and worth supporting. They have done many great things in the community too. I loved the fun get-togethers and events best. They were fun!

- Betsy S.

PS: this is me. It's a kind of older photo, but still...

Wednesday, July 6, 2016

Hi from Betsy - - I and another member are meeting this week or next to see who to phone - - Officers are needed.

Hi, all! I saw that a bunch of people went to this blog today!

I have not posted here for a long time. I am no longer the Webmaster or an Officer, but plan to help next year. I also just volunteered to be on the Nomination Committee for the Club.

BUT I can tell you the members who attended last week's meeting voted to try to KEEP the BGAMUG group going last week. They will have another vote in a month or two about that. C.J. and I are meeting in the next couple of weeks and coming up with a plan to get more members and officers for the club.

The current officers would like to take a break. Some have been doing "double duty" for a long time. If you are interested in serving as an Officer for a year or even for an emergency basis until we find somebody else, let us know.

You can contact me at 270-779-4152 (cell phone) or by email at lizann447@yahoo.com.

I have C.J.s contact info. at home, (I'm downtown today) and will let him know right away when people contact me.

Here is a list of the officers we need:
President
VP of Membership
VP of Technology
Secretary
Program Director
Treasurer
Webmaster
Officer at Large (2)
Sergeant-at-Arms

I will be hunting down the Job Descriptions for these soon too. :-) I think I have a copy of the Constitution and ByLaws on my other computer.

Here is a link to the Newsletter and Meeting news from June. http://www.bgamug.org/june-2016-meeting-newsletter/.

If you do not hear from us a day or two after you send a message, then please phone me.

I hope you had a GREAT 4th of July!

And look for a possible call from one or both of us soon.

BGAMUG-ly Yours,
Betsy Sheppard

Amy Bingham, "Preparing a Story"

Amy Bingham at Nov. Meeting

Our guest speaker this month was Amy Bingham the Broadcast Coordinator of WKU University. She shared with us the process she uses to prepare a story for her weekly show, View from the Hill. She also used to be an Anchor and Producer at WBKO.
All of us have stories. Taking your old photos and editing them with your favorite music or audio of a family story is something everyone can do. Microsoft has Movie Maker delivered in every installation. Amy talked about using Final Cut Pro which is professional platform and costly. Jerry Gillette gave a program before on using Movie Maker. Amy shared that they shoot lots of footage that get edited into 30-45 second sound bites. She then uses most of the material from the part cut out to weave the story between the sound bites. Bring your videos to share at a future meeting.

Next Year & Christmas Party

2015 BGAMUG will move to Hillvue Church

Next year our current meeting place will no longer be available to us. We will be moving to Hillvue Heights Church, 3219 Nashville Rd., Bowling Green.

Christmas Party December 13th 6-8 pm

Our annual Christmas Party is December 13th at Christ Episcopal Church. This is our chance to socialize with all the members of the club and their families. Bring a side dish to share. The club furnishes the Turkey and Ham, drinks and tableware. Arrive between 4-6 pm if you can help with the setup.

We will also have a gift exchange. Bring a gift of suggested value $10-$20. Do not put who the gift was from just label the gift as "Man", "Women", or "Both". You don't have to spend $, it's perfectly acceptable to re-gift something that you received in that price range.

Shout out to some good cooks at the BGAMUG Picnic.

The BGAMUG Picnic was really nice.

The food was great as usual. I have to give a shout out to the Peach dessert, also the Chess Pie, and the BBQ sauce was good too. Something with a crunchy crust (potatoes?) were really good too. Everything was good. There was plenty of room to sit.

We met at Covington Woods Park. The golfers were out in force. We barely got a parking space, but we were lucky and got one.

Jerry told us one of our original people the club donated a computer to has passed away. Everyone except some people who had to leave early played some Bingo after the meal.

People brought electric fans and that helped a lot, because it was HOT on Saturday.

Anyone have some photos? I'd love to see them. I got to talk with a few people, that was fun too.

From Betsy

BGAMUG Votes to Meet at Home Instead Senior Care Training

Past President Jerry Gillette put it this way, "Never before in the history of BGAMUG has the membership been able to vote on a meeting location."

With two potential meeting places, the club met in April at the Hillvue Heights Church and in May at Home Instead Training Center. The majority of the members have voted to hold meetings at Home Instead. From Campbell lane turn on Gary Farms Rd toward the Greenwood Mall. Go past the bank and in the first building on the left is Home Instead's training facility.  If you go as far David's bridal go have gone too far.

Please join us at the next meeting on June 24th at 6:30 PM.

Tuesday night's program is by Jeri Steele on Making Windows 8 behave (like Windows 7). As more and more people buy new computers they will be getting them with Windows 8.  The new Operating System is already on version 8.1 and is in my experience been very stable.  But the interface was designed more for touch screen so it's no obvious what to do to get other programs installed, etc. Come see one way to survive at Windows 8.
