The BGAMUG Computer Club has its own website.
Here is our countdown ticker until our next meeting:
If you are a member, you can list your favorite sites on the website, or here on the BGAMUG Computer Club blog. Just leave a message about it and I will contact you.
Members have suggested some sites also on the BGAMUG Computer Club newsletter. I will share them here today.
They are from recent newsletters.
Helpful for genealogical research are Evernote, Worldcat.org, Protopage.com and Legacystories.com.
One of my favorite websites: Facebook - where you can reconnect with loved ones, family and friends.
A useful site to help secure your wireless connection is the Makeuseof site article here.
Three links to help you stay safe online are:
http://www.staysafeonline.org/ncsam/
http://www.staysafeonline.org/ncsam/champions/
and
http://www.microsoft.com/security/resources/cybersecurity.aspx
Quicken and Moneydance are two good money programs.

Notes from our last meeting - we found more out about iTunes
Our last meeting - Betsy's abbreviated Notes
A COMPUTER SERVICE PROJECT
Our service project of supplying computers to the Noon Rotary Club for their school project is going great. The Rotary Club is helping a local school. Club members Gene and Joe have been fixing the computers and getting them ready.
CRUISING DREAMS
The Florida User Groups have a great Royal Caribbean cruise available for interested group members. There is a special photography tour, events, a butterfly farm, AND a famous plane spotting location that some members may be doing too.
PRESENTATION ON iTUNES
Jeri showed us some of the many benefits of using iTunes! You can even make your own free custom ringtones with it. She also talked about how to sync a computer, an iPad, an iPhone, and iPod too, and showed some safety tips. She may talk more about the many things you can do with iTunes in another presentation later.
A PLAY IN BOWLING GREEN
Neva shared with us that Fountain Square Players is doing a performance of The Bridge to Terabithia. This is a children's play that addresses a child's death and helps children understand it better.
OUR GENEALOGY SIG
The Genealogy SIG, which meets before the regular BGAMUG meeting at 5:45, was very interesting. We all found out more about WorldCAT (a librarian site) and how to do a library search using it. We also learned more about the Tennessee State Archives. We may take a field trip there sometime.
MEMBER NEWS
We saw some new members and some returning members at the meeting too. We had a winner of the door prize too.
There was lots more!
You can find out more about the Bridge to Terabithia here.

Computers are so important for education today. The BGAMUG Computer Club also thinks so.

I agree: computer access (to the Internet) IS a basic need for education in our society, as Computer Labs and teachers will also tell you.
Kent Conrad is right.
When I taught, the library computer lab was SO important.
And if somebody has a personal computer, it is SO much easier today to do research, or learn online at home.
The BGAMUG Computer Club has given computers to schools all over. They also have furnished computers to people that could not afford them.
They have meetings every month except in December.
Find out more at their website and Facebook page.

I hope you are having a great Presidents' Day!
