Your Smart Phone in an Emergency

This is reposted with permission from Paula Johnson Hinkel's Facebook Posting:
"Keep all of your electronic devices plugged in to charge so they are at 100% when the power goes off.

Tips for conserve power for your phone:

Turn the phone off when you can. (Some people forget they can actually turn the phone OFF and then turn it back on at scheduled intervals.)

Change your voicemail message to let people know you are all right but you're trying to conserve power. Ask them to leave a message and you will call them back at (time). Better yet, have one person designated as your point of contact and direct your calls to that person.

If you need to send email(s), turn the phone on but use airplane mode. After all your emails have been written, turn the phone off airplane mode, send the emails you have drafted, and then turn the airplane mode back on.

Turn down the brightness on your phone.

Use texting instead of phoning.

No playing Angry Birds, slots or Farmville! :)

And it's too late now, but think about getting a supplemental charger (or two) to have when you'll be away from an electrical plug-in (airplane), or for an emergency.

What other tricks have you learned to conserve power for your phone?"

My hint is to turn off the Wireless if you are away from home or where there is any wireless connection.  The iPhone seems to keep looking for the Wireless connection and loses battery power quicker. Any other suggestions?

A follow up to the original post suggested  that you should unplug all the devices once they are charged. This is to prevent damage if there is a surge in power.
