A date has not been set, but I think it's a good idea. I was able to get a great deal on a small trampoline last time.

How is everyone doing? Great, I hope.

Google Glass - is it a computer? Sort of. Would you wear it?

Via Planeta on Flickr.

Are you thinking you will get a set of Google glasses?

Maybe not right now, but later?

They had a news story about these tonight. Someone used them in Times Square, in New York. They took some photos and got directions.

They do cost a lot. My husband said he would probably pass on them. But when the apps are made, I'll bet having a pair of Google glasses (or Google Glass with no "es"?) would be fun.

I think the price will probably go down.  And I'm curious. I think it would be fun to try these out. I hope they become affordable in the future.

What do you think?

All for now,

Microsoft to bring back its "Start" button? Is that something you would like?

Is this something you would like?

I think I would. I tried to navigate a Windows computer with a new OS about a year ago. I could not find where to go!

Maybe a start button (like I'm used to) would help. I am used to using a Mac, but I used to use a Windows OS before. It would help me possibly use one again.

Why? Because not all programs are made for both platforms (think: Corel!)

What do you think?

Here is the (pretty interesting!) article I found today via Yahoo News.

Microsoft told to bring back Start button as ‘a sign that it listens to its customers’ by Brad Reed.

It's time to backup!

Have you backed up your important computer files lately?

If not...

This cool Image (above) credit: ~Twon~ Robert Anthony Provost on Flickr.

An example of important files are:

Your book manuscripts

Names and addresses

Important emails

Etc. Etc.

You will be so happy to have this extra copy when you need it.

You can also double-backup by using a Cloud service or another form of backup.

Some things I have learned lately - - from Betsy, BGAMUG Webmaster 2013

Fun Musings about the BGAMUG Computer Club and more.

Art credit

By E. Sheppard

Hi, all!

This is Betsy, webmaster in the BGAMUG Computer Club.

I saw that the BGAMUG Blog had not been updated for awhile, so I'm going to write today about some things people are talking about online (that I have looked at) are:

People are excited about the new Google Glass that is coming out. What do you all think about these new glasses that Google will be making?

Apple is coming out with a new watch too that you have probably also heard of. Other companies are watching this very closely. I wonder what they will be like.

More and more people are discovering Google+. I know I have been using it lately to find new articles. Some of the people I know from Squidoo are using it for advertising. Others share new tech discoveries there. I have made several groups there, and also have joined others. Some are tech-related, others are writing-related.

People in the BGAMUG Computer Club are using smartphones and are looking forward to learning more about apps that are popular for them. We have already found out about some of them.

Also, we have recently learned more about iTunes too. One thing that happened to me lately is that I was in touch with Apple customer service about my personal iTunes songs I used to have. I say USED to because I have a new Apple ID now.

The tech advisor on the other end of the phone at Apple helped walk me through bringing my old tunes over to my new name. I really like having these songs back. I had almost given up on being able to access them.

It's neat to realize (as many of our members did at our last BGAMUG meeting) that nowadays people have computers inbedded in many products they use. And we don't just have computers anymore. We have smart phones, tablets, and more that act like computers too. So there is a lot to learn about all of these. But I personally think it is worth learning about each new discovery.

I have been using some apps on an iPad and found out that although this item is useful and you can do a lot on it (like checking email and etc.) you can't run huge programs on them because they simply are not made for them.

What things have you learned lately? Share them as a comment or comments here.

Club members and others: if you would like to do a posting here, just let me know.

Have an exciting, great, and fun week, everyone! And thanks for stopping by.

A new and fun website design for BGAMUG - - this year sometime!

We are trying out a new website design this year.

One of our most hardworking members, Jeri, is working on it right now.

I think it's good to try out new things and have new designs every so often.

Here is something else new: (new to me!)

Ghost horses...

It's a picture of some horses in the yard of Bashford Manor in Louisville. Bashford Manor is a bed and breakfast there. I recently got to spend some time there.

This house used to have many horses. It doesn't any more. Just statues of them.

Anyway, it's neat to look at new things every so often - - houses, and web sites. So stay tuned!

Notes from our last meeting - we found more out about iTunes

Our last meeting - Betsy's abbreviated Notes

A COMPUTER SERVICE PROJECT
Our service project of supplying computers to the Noon Rotary Club for their school project is going great. The Rotary Club is helping a local school. Club members Gene and Joe have been fixing the computers and getting them ready.

CRUISING DREAMS
The Florida User Groups have a great Royal Caribbean cruise available for interested group members. There is a special photography tour, events, a butterfly farm, AND a famous plane spotting location that some members may be doing too.

PRESENTATION ON iTUNES
Jeri showed us some of the many benefits of using iTunes! You can even make your own free custom ringtones with it. She also talked about how to sync a computer, an iPad, an iPhone, and iPod too, and showed some safety tips. She may talk more about the many things you can do with iTunes in another presentation later.

A PLAY IN BOWLING GREEN
Neva shared with us that Fountain Square Players is doing a performance of The Bridge to Terabithia. This is a children's play that addresses a child's death and helps children understand it better.

OUR GENEALOGY SIG
The Genealogy SIG, which meets before the regular BGAMUG meeting at 5:45, was very interesting. We all found out more about WorldCAT (a librarian site) and how to do a library search using it. We also learned more about the Tennessee State Archives. We may take a field trip there sometime.

MEMBER NEWS
We saw some new members and some returning members at the meeting too. We had a winner of the door prize too.

There was lots more!

Computers are so important for education today. The BGAMUG Computer Club also thinks so.

Photo by Jaci XIII on Flickr.

I agree: computer access (to the Internet) IS a basic need for education in our society, as Computer Labs and teachers will also tell you.

Kent Conrad is right.

When I taught, the library computer lab was SO important.

And if somebody has a personal computer, it is SO much easier today to do research, or learn online at home.

The BGAMUG Computer Club has given computers to schools all over. They also have furnished computers to people that could not afford them.

They have meetings every month except in December.

BGAMUG's ace computer fix-it guy, new programs coming up, more

Just saying - Some club news from Betsy.

Our member, Joe Easterling, does computer work. He doesn't talk about it much, except to do free talks about computer safety, computer tips and tricks, and much more.

You can see his website here:

Western Kentucky Computers

He helps get rid of viruses and spyware, and can back up your files too, plus lots of other things.

Just saying! You may want to keep his site on your Bookmarks just in case. It's always good to have a Tech Guy you can call just in case.

_________________________________________________

We had another Officer's meeting this week. We got some neat presents for next year's Christmas Party that will be given out then. (We got a good deal on them). I can't tell what these presents are, because they might be a secret. But they looked neat.

Some things people are going to be hearing about at future BGAMUG Computer Club meetings are iTunes and the iPhone. I use iTunes and really like it.

I changed my iTunes name and ID and am trying to find out how to get my old info. from that. Maybe I'll ask that question at the presentation meeting.

(Also: I am thinking of getting an iPhone - are you?)

Last but not least: The club is working on getting some computers ready for another club.
