A new BGAMUG page on FB - the BGAMUG Remembrance Page. Join us!

Well, BGAMUG is no longer an official Computer Club.

It has been that way for awhile. I am catching up with blogging, so hopefully this message will get out to more people today.

The Club voted last year to discontinue this awesome Club. We now have a BGAMUG Remembrance Page on Facebook, though!

Come join us there if you like. We would love to have you, especially if you were a Member there.

Here is that link: The BGAMUG Remembrance Page on Facebook. I will try to share these postings there too.

Let us know how you have been doing, but commenting below here as a comment, or by going to the FB page to comment or share.

All for now!

Betsy S., Past President and past Member of The BGAMUG

And we have kept one of our websites, too! I hope to post more there too, this year. Right now it's a "Placeholder page".

Here is that link too: http://www.bgamug.com/

Updates! Two Facebook pages for two titles, Nov. is voting month, more.

Hello out there!

This the one of the BGAMUG Computer Club's social media options. Now we also have TWO Facebook pages. AND the website has been updated too.

Here is the original Facebook page (join if you are not there yet): The BGAMUG Computer Club - and here is the second page: The Bowling Green Microcomputer User Group page. We voted to change our name, but it is not official yet on our paperwork. So mostly, I try to share what I see on ONE page to the other lately. They are "linked" pages. I have not figured what this can mean for each group - yet.

Off to another subject: Have you considered an Officer position for next year? NOW is the time to let me or another Officer know if you want to submit a name for consideration. We have had people already say they want to step up. ALL of the positions are open until the election. The more people we can get to do this, the better the Club can be and the more FUN events, etc. we can do.

I will still be helping, MAYBE as somebody helping with new members.

AND I will be sharing with the group my TIPS for creating a Take Action group on Facebook. I hope you will really like this Presentation.

We'll see if Jerry will also be presenting about his Alexa (?) machine.

I hope everyone is doing well! I will try much harder to post here, at least once a month or so. Yes, I know, if wishes were horses...

BGAMUG Website Updated, more. Dec. 28

Hi, all!

Our webmaster, John Walker, has redone our website! It has currently on there a January Preview of our meeting. We also have the current Newsletter there.

You can see our new website front (landing) page here:

See the right side, there is an announcement about the next BGAMUG E-Board Meeting, and Gneral Meeting date too, along with GPS directions to our meetings.

I like it!

Now to see if we can get our blog (this one) put on the page also...

I will look up a script to use that I have used on some of my other websites and send it over to John next.

The picnic was fun! I loved the homemade food. Our next meeting... more.

Well, our host and hostesses at Diamond W Farms (Gary and Karen Wickliff) certainly outdid themselves for the BGAMUG picnic.

I want to thank them for their terrific hospitality. It was fun to see everyone. We have some pictures to share later on too.

Also, I got to see a beautiful horse, and a redecorated hanger area there.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, August 27th. A Genealogy Special Interest Group will meet at 5:45.

The meeting may be in Building H, Room 133.
Or the meeting may be in the older location. (Building F).

Here is the map to the H building: (Thanks for this, Jerry.)

It also shows the other buildings.

Guests are always welcome at BGAMUG meetings.

An FYI Update: BGAMUG Computer Club news for July.

Here is an update for BGAMUG Computer Club members and friends.

Well, that was interesting last month! We had a meeting scheduled, but there was no place to park, as the school was re-doing the parking lot.
So we are waiting to hear about where we will meet next month. I have gotten a few emails and have put some information here.

Right now, we have some meeting ideas which have probably moved a bit.

July, Jeri Steele (Photo Editing in Office 10)

August - Jerry G - Keyboarding 1001

September - Auction (This event is really fun!)

The BGAMUG Board meeting is now July 9th.

I hope everyone's computer is doing fine. :-)

Happy Computing!

Microsoft to bring back its "Start" button? Is that something you would like?

Is this something you would like?

I think I would. I tried to navigate a Windows computer with a new OS about a year ago. I could not find where to go!

Maybe a start button (like I'm used to) would help. I am used to using a Mac, but I used to use a Windows OS before. It would help me possibly use one again.

Why? Because not all programs are made for both platforms (think: Corel!)

What do you think?

Here is the (pretty interesting!) article I found today via Yahoo News.

Microsoft told to bring back Start button as ‘a sign that it listens to its customers’ by Brad Reed.

Notes from our last meeting - we found more out about iTunes

Our last meeting - Betsy's abbreviated Notes

A COMPUTER SERVICE PROJECT
Our service project of supplying computers to the Noon Rotary Club for their school project is going great. The Rotary Club is helping a local school. Club members Gene and Joe have been fixing the computers and getting them ready.

CRUISING DREAMS
The Florida User Groups have a great Royal Caribbean cruise available for interested group members. There is a special photography tour, events, a butterfly farm, AND a famous plane spotting location that some members may be doing too.

PRESENTATION ON iTUNES
Jeri showed us some of the many benefits of using iTunes! You can even make your own free custom ringtones with it. She also talked about how to sync a computer, an iPad, an iPhone, and iPod too, and showed some safety tips. She may talk more about the many things you can do with iTunes in another presentation later.

A PLAY IN BOWLING GREEN
Neva shared with us that Fountain Square Players is doing a performance of The Bridge to Terabithia. This is a children's play that addresses a child's death and helps children understand it better.

OUR GENEALOGY SIG
The Genealogy SIG, which meets before the regular BGAMUG meeting at 5:45, was very interesting. We all found out more about WorldCAT (a librarian site) and how to do a library search using it. We also learned more about the Tennessee State Archives. We may take a field trip there sometime.

MEMBER NEWS
We saw some new members and some returning members at the meeting too. We had a winner of the door prize too.

There was lots more!

You can find out more about the Bridge to Terabithia here.

Computers are so important for education today. The BGAMUG Computer Club also thinks so.

Photo by Jaci XIII on Flickr.

I agree: computer access (to the Internet) IS a basic need for education in our society, as Computer Labs and teachers will also tell you.

Kent Conrad is right.

When I taught, the library computer lab was SO important.

And if somebody has a personal computer, it is SO much easier today to do research, or learn online at home.

The BGAMUG Computer Club has given computers to schools all over. They also have furnished computers to people that could not afford them.

They have meetings every month except in December.

Find out more at their website and Facebook page.

BGAMUG's ace computer fix-it guy, new programs coming up, more

Just saying - Some club news from Betsy.

Our member, Joe Easterling, does computer work. He doesn't talk about it much, except to do free talks about computer safety, computer tips and tricks, and much more.

You can see his website here:

Western Kentucky Computers

He helps get rid of viruses and spyware, and can back up your files too, plus lots of other things.

Just saying! You may want to keep his site on your Bookmarks just in case. It's always good to have a Tech Guy you can call just in case.

_________________________________________________

We had another Officer's meeting this week. We got some neat presents for next year's Christmas Party that will be given out then. (We got a good deal on them). I can't tell what these presents are, because they might be a secret. But they looked neat.

Some things people are going to be hearing about at future BGAMUG Computer Club meetings are iTunes and the iPhone. I use iTunes and really like it.

I changed my iTunes name and ID and am trying to find out how to get my old info. from that. Maybe I'll ask that question at the presentation meeting.

(Also: I am thinking of getting an iPhone - are you?)

Last but not least: The club is working on getting some computers ready for another club.
